The current Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has once again won the hearts of his people. He has put his strong opinion in the 55th Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council meeting which was held in Rajasthan last Saturday again GST hike on Kashmiri shawls.

For the last few days, there has a speculation that in the 55th GST Council meeting, we will see the hike in GST of Pashmina Shawls from 12% to 28%. Because of this leaked information, we have seen huge protests in Kashmir in the last few days. Political parties and traders were not happy with the GST hike on Kashmiri shawls, especially Pashmina.

People were scared that if the GST was increased on Kashmiri goods from 12% to 28%, that would directly impact the consumption of goods and the sales would be reduced. This plan was also opposed by former Jammu & Kashmir Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu.

After so much opposition to this hike plan, it was decided not to increase GST on these goods, especially Pashmina shawls. The current secretary general of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries also thanked Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for considering the request of the Kashmiri people and their representative Omar Abdullah.

Generally, we see, that the head of the state wanted to earn more tax from their luxury goods but Omar Abdullah did just the opposite, he cared about his people and saved their businesses from going down.
