The Dravidian Movement by DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) headed by M.K. Stalin sparked new controversy when DMK party members started blacking out Hindi words on name boards.

Elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has said that we do not hate any other language and the Dravidian movement is not to disrespect any language, it is just that we want to promote the Tamil language and don’t want it to be dominated by any other language.

When asked to M.K. Stalin, why are you still opposing Hindi, he replied, because you are still imposing it on us.

He said, “Why do other states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, etc., don’t have Tamil words on name boards? South passengers also travel to these states.”

He blamed the BJP Government for imposing Hindi and Sanskrit on Tamil people through their three-language formula. Stalin also highlights that with the two-language formula, we already have an edge in terms of education, skill development and job creation.

M.K. Stalin also said the Dravidian movement was not new, he recalled the anti-Hindi agitation back in 1937 and 1939 and said if the situation arises we would be prepared for similar protests.
