Jay Shah: The Unopposed Youngest ICC Chairman

Must read

The current BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) secretary Jay Shah is all set to become the youngest ICC (International Cricket Council) chairman without any opposition.

As current ICC chairman Greg Barclay will step down in November, Jay Shah will take over him on December 1. The need for this election was raised when Barclay denied the extension of his chairman post.

After getting elected, in his statement to press release he said “We are at a crucial point where it’s essential to harmonize various formats, encourage the use of cutting-edge technologies, and expand our premier events into new international markets”.

It will be interesting to see who the next BCCI secretary will be once Jay Shar leaves that position. There is no name in the air yet.

Does Jay Shah Have Additional Advantage of His Father’s Position

Although he is the son of a most powerful politician and the current Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he has always been blamed on social media for taking advantage of his father’s position. But the reality is a bit different.

It is more than a decade that Jay Shah has been in cricket administration. Earlier in 2013, he also served as a joint secretary of the Gujrat Cricket Association. In 2019, he was appointed as the secretary of BCCI and he has also served as the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) since 2021.

Jay Shah became the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association in 2013 when the ruling party was BJP in Gujarat and his father Amit Shah had completed a decade as Home Minister of State, Gujarat. He also served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Gujarat (2012 – 2017).
