The U.S. Vice President JD Vance has reached India and begun a four-day personal trip with his family. During his visit, he will go to see the Taj Mahal in Agra and will attend the wedding in Jaipur.
Experts said that JD Vance’s trip is more personal than professional and it unlikely to make any deal, however, he will have a discussion with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will discuss trade talks and tariffs would be the major part of the discussion.
Before he visited India, JD Vance visited Rome to meet Pope Francis on Easter Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the big political leaders who visited the U.S. to discuss imposed reciprocal tariffs. However, the U.S. president time-to-time has called India a “tariff abuser” and “tariff king”.
After the U.S. visits, the Indian government has decided to cut tariffs on more than half of its imports.
According to U.S. government trade data, bilateral trade between the United States and India reached $129 billion in 2024, making the U.S. India’s largest trading partner. India recorded a trade surplus of $45.7 billion in the exchange.
